Background
Last week we saw that our vital ‘daily bread’ are not just our physical; but also spiritual. We noted that since God has promised to take care of the bare necessities of our existence (food and clothing), we ought to focus more on our spiritual needs. We further stated that most Christians are missing out on this most essential part of their lives; and are therefore lagging in the supply of their needs (both spiritual and physical).

We saw that seeking the kingdom of God is the key to obtaining many of the physical things that many are labouring for in their own strength. Hence, we noted that we should spend more time seeking the kingdom of God, rather than chasing after physical needs. We also noted that we get frustrated in our prayer life, when we merely desire, but don’t ask; and when we ask for desires that are contrary to God’s desire for us.

Among the things that we said we should rather be asking God for on a daily basis are wisdom, peace, and utterance. We noted that the bible says that wisdom is the principal thing, so let’s get it in the place of prayer. Peace from God is the anti-dote to anxiety and worry, so we should also seek that in prayer. We also indicated that we should ask God for the grace to speak after the wisdom of God, and in the power of the Holy Spirit.

We shall continue to look at a few more things to pray about on a daily basis; and which should constitute ‘our daily bread’. May the Holy Spirit help us, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Scripture Text(s)
Matthew 6:11; 2 Peter 1:2-11
From our texts tonight, we can see that there is more to Christianity than just waiting to enter into heaven. Christianity requires that we are preparing through prayers for an unimpeded access into heaven. May the Holy Spirit help us to pray as we ought to, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
The content of our daily bread includes a few other spiritual matters. These are matters of eternal value, as well as, of earthly significance.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7; John 17:17; 1 Peter 1:2; 2 Timothy 2:20-21; John 17:3; Philippians 3:8-13; Psalm 16:11; James 1:2-4; Romans 5:3; Philippians 4:4; Nehemiah 8:10; Ezekiel 36:21-37; Daniel 9:2-4a; Numbers 23:19; Jeremiah 33:3.

Conclusion
Being born again is just one side of the coin in Christianity; the other side is to be sanctified and be ready for service, while here on earth. For us to be born again, our past sins had to be dealt with through the cross of Jesus Christ. However, after we are born again, sin doesn’t just pack up and leave, hence, to keep from falling into sin, getting discouraged, or being defeated by the devil, we need to be sanctified; increase our knowledge of God; rest secure in Him; and be full of the joy of the Lord.

Other things that we need to pray about daily, as much as is possible, are the fulfillment of God’s promises to us, and as contained in His word; and, sometimes, a glimpse into things to come, as God may see fit to reveal.
