Topic: Not to Destroy But to Fulfill (3)

Two weeks ago, the issue before us was whether or not the claims of Jesus as the Christ is true, for only the Christ could fulfill all that was written about Him. So, we set out to see if Jesus fully satisfied the requirements of the Law and the predictions of the Prophets; or if we are to expect another? We noted that the issue of whether or not Jesus is the Christ was a major one for the early Christians, and so must it be for us, today’s Christians!
As we surveyed the scriptures two weeks ago, we confirmed that Jesus is indeed the Christ, for He fulfilled ALL that was written of Him! (Luke 24:44): His birth, His earthly life, His ministry, His betrayal, His crucifixion, His resurrection, His ascension, and His heavenly position. Having confirmed this then, we can now comfortably look at what He did, and be bold to make up our minds to be part of Him in every respect. Unfortunately, many so-called Christians are not so sure that Jesus is indeed the Christ, neither are they sure of what He came to achieve; and so, they are trying to fulfill God’s laws, rather than coming under Jesus Christ, who has fulfilled them all! (Matthew 16:13-19).
Scripture Text(s)
Matthew 5:17-20
Tonight, we shall look at what the Lord Jesus came to do on behalf of man, as God’s anointed. As we study, we pray that the Holy Spirit will help us to seek to be and remain in Christ.
The Lord Jesus did not come to abolish the law rather, He came to satisfy its requirements or demands, and by so doing, make us to be acceptable (righteous) before God. What was it that He did to make us righteous before God?
Romans 7:7-8:5; Proverbs 22:7; Psalms 37:21; Colossians 2:13-15; 1 John 3:8; Galatians 3:13; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:13-14, 20; Romans 7:2-4; 10:2-4; 8:5-17.
Conclusion
In fulfilling the requirement of the Law, Christ paid the price of death for sin. We owe the debt of death for sin, but the Lord Jesus came to pay the price, and by so doing, freed us from the hold of sin and Satan. Having been freed therefore, we are no longer to continue to live as we did: being dictated to by Satan and sin, rather, we are to allow the Holy Spirit to lead us and to give us direction in life.
Christ, having fully satisfied the demands of the Law, makes it possible for us to live as people who have themselves fulfilled these demands by extension or through Him; having become part of Him, through the remission of our sins by reason of our seeking the forgiveness of God. we must accept that we are sinners and owe the debt of death for sin which has now been paid by Christ, hence we are free from sin, but not free to live as we wish, but as Christ desires (John 1:11-13; 1 Peter 1:13-23; Galatians 5:1). The way and means of living right before God has also been supplied to the believer through the Holy Spirit which has been given to him, to help him live as God wants (Galatians 5:16-24).
