Speak up for Righteousness When You Should (3)

In continuation of what we have been discussing under this topic, we look at two case studies that help us to appreciate why we should speak up for righteousness. The case of Zedekiah the priest who spoke up against Joash's (or Jehoash's) idolatry and was murdered. We also look at the case of Moedecai who spoke up against Haman's plan and how this helped and rescued the Jews of their day.

Errors that Led to the Making of a Gold Calf: Introduction

We shall look at the errors that led to the making of the gold calf, as we introduce this sub-theme. We shall then proceed to learn from this so that we don't enter into such errors. We begin here by defining error, where it resides, and what it implies, vis-à-vis, our Christian walk.

Errors that Led to the Making of a Gold Calf: The Man Who Brought us up out

One of the major errors that the Israelites in the wilderness made, was to think of Moses as their deliverer, rather than God. If we don't know and appreciate that God saved us through the Lord Jesus Christ, we would become victims of the worship of gold calves.

Errors that Led to the Making of a Gold Calf: The Error of Knowledge

The error of knowledge is that we have a head knowledge of things that we can see and handle but there is no real knowledge there. Real knowledge comes from an intimate knowledge of God in a personal relationship. Our knowledge of God from the heart leads us to God, and it does not lead us to make a gold calf.

Errors that Led to the Making of a Gold Calf: The Silence of God

While Aaron and the people were making the gold calf in the camp, God was well aware, yet He said nothing to Moses at the time, until they had made the gold calf, and had worshipped it. The silence of God has traditionally been seen to mean God's approval, backing, or consent. We look at the silence of God and see that what is crucial is whether we are living by the word of God; not believing that God's silence means that we are doing something good.

God's Verdict on the Worship of the Gold Calf

We look at God's verdict on the worship of the gold calf, and it is horrifying. Man may see idolatry as a simple thing. But as far as God is concerned, idolatry is a corruption of the human nature. It is a debasement of who the Israelites are. We see how it applies to us, today's Christians, and how God sees us when we engage in idolatry.

Fear God

Looking at all that has transpired up to now with Israel in the wilderness, and the fact that God kept silent through it all, we ought to fear God. We ought not to take God for granted; we must continually focus on the word of God, rather than what people are saying to us.
