We pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you as you listen.
God's word to His people is that they make the Lord Jesus their sufficiency, rather than look to doing things in their own strength. Learning from the lesson from Queen Vashti's ouster and the enthronement of Esther, we are told to depend solely on the Lord Jesus and receive all the He has for us to do His work in His own strength.
The \lord Jesus was resolute about going to Jerusalem, the place of His crucifixion and death! We must likewise follow in His steps and go to our own 'Jerusalem'. We go to our 'Jerusalem' with the knowledge that the Lord Jesus will be with us along the way.
This question has arisen directly from the comment the Lord Jesus made to James and John when they wanted to call down fire on a village that wouldn't have the Lord stay over. The issue is as we see Christians conducting themselves today, we cannot but ask "What manner of spirit are you of?"
In this exhortation, we challenge the Christian to prepare his heart before hearing the word of God, and afterwards, to live by the word of God. We also look at the reality that the Christian is but a stranger in this world, and its implications thereof.
The Lord Jesus told Peter in John 21:15-23, more or less, 'Mind Your Own Business', when he asked concerning John, "And what shall this man do?" As Christians, we are called to mind our own businesses. In minding your own business, it is imperative that you find out what your business is; focus on doing it regardless of the challenges and temptations not to go on ahead with doing your business; and, ensure that you finish or accomplish the business. For this to be successful, you need to make the Lord Jesus Christ your business!
The agency that God uses to make changes in our lives is His word. But the word of God is not just something that is written in a book--the Bible--neither is it merely something spoken; the word of God is a Person--the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the agency of change in our lives!
We are to be well-rounded Christians and thus, we need to excel or abound in every grace that God has made available to us.
As Christians we should be living righteously in our generation. Living righteously in your generation is about living for God in all that you do (particularly, your lifestyle and conduct in this present world)., even though you may be the only one!
God has made several promises to Christians, but how many have received these promises? How many Christians believe the promises of God or as the Lord Jesus asked "Believest thou this?"
As Christians we are God's "Exports". Where we find ourselves, is where God has 'exported' us to. So, as God's ambassadors, we ought to live in a manner that makes us true representatives of God. This is the challenge of all Christians wherever they find themselves!
The leaders of the crowd saw in Aaron a weak leader but one who had authority, and they decided to use Aaron's authority to propagate their agenda. And because Aaron was weak as a leader, he succumbed to their agitation, and Aaron became one who was being led by the people he ought to be leading. What can make a leader to be led by the led? Why would a leader succumb to be led by the led? What happens now is that parents are being led by children. Leaders are also led by their spouses. If leaders are led by the led, gold calves will be the result.
It is sad that Aaron could not stand up to the pressure from the people who had gathered to him to make them a god. Indeed Aaron had betrayed the trust that was reposed in him by Moses. It was also a betrayal of Aaron's vision of God on the mountain. So, what should we do when we are under pressure to do what we ordinarily should not do? What should we do when we are under pressure to betray Christ? What must we do to be able to stand under pressure? How should we respond to the pressures to betray Christ.
When the people asked Aaron to make them a god, he asked them to bring to him their jewelry. So, the people funded the making of the gold calf. Whatever we are expending money and energy on is something that we are funding. If it is the work of God as directed by God, then we are funding the work of God and stifling the kingdom of Satan. On the other hand, if you fund the work of Satan, you are growing the kingdom of Satan and stifling the kingdom of God. We shall be looking at how we fund activities that are basically gold calves, to the detriment of God's work.
There were other leaders around Aaron when the crowd gathered unto him and asked him to make them a gold calf. And when Aaron asked that the people bring their jewelry, the other leaders still did nothing to dissuade Aaron from doing what he was doing. It is imperative that we speak up for righteousness when we should; not when we can! We should not hide when we are under pressure to engage in iniquity; rather, let us open up to others and seek their counsel and intercession. There are other times when we should speak up for righteousness.
There were many leaders in Israel at the time when Aaron was making the gold calf yet none of them spoke up for God. After the gold calf was erected, these leaders were present and even possibly among those who proclaimed that the gold calf was the god who brought them out of Egypt. We want to see why these leaders who were present at the time said nothing, so that we can learn from this situation for our lives. In this installment, we seek answers to the question "Why are we not speaking up for righteousness?"
