Before You Pray

We discuss the things we need to do in preparation for meeting with God in the place of prayer. These are: being of an acceptable disposition before God, eliminating 'noise' and distractions before praying, and having knowledge and understanding of who God really is, and the implications thereof. We also discuss why we should pray, even though God already knows what we want to ask before we ask.

Prayer Is ... (1)

We discuss here, what prayer really is all about. This is the first part, and we note that prayer is first and foremost personal and private before it is congregational and public. We also note that prayer must be qualitative, not necessarily voluminous.

Prayer Is ... (2)

We continue with our discussion on what prayer really is all about. This is the second part, and we note in this part that prayer is having an honest conversation with God; it is communing with God directly on your own (not going through a human intermediary), and, it is having a divine encounter. Other issues arising therefrom are discussed.

Prayer Is ... (3)

We continue with our discussion on what prayer really is all about. This is the third part, and our focus in on "Thy Kingdom come". We note that by this prayer, we are inviting the Lord Jesus Christ to come and rule and reign over us individually, even as we desire Him to eliminate all other kingdoms that have dominated and oppressed us.

Prayer Is ... (4)

We set about describing what the Will of God is, and what is entailed in doing God's Will. Thereafter, we define prayer in the context of "Thy Will be done in earth, as it is done in heaven." Two fundamental descriptions are arrived at, that should help the believer in Christ to have a proper focus in prayer.

Prayer Is ... (5)

In this fifth part of looking at what prayer is from Matthew 6:9-15, we discuss what the Lord meant by "bread" and aver that He meant it to be more of spiritual than natural. Hence, we conclude that "Give us this day our daily bread" is asking God for spiritual sustenance, nourishment, and, empowerment.

Prayer Is ... (6)

As we take a look at what prayer is, as a basic responsibility of every Christian, we note here, that we are to ensure that we are free of offence towards all men. Hence, we must promptly forgive those whom we have ought againtst, and as such seek forgiveness from those who have ought against us.

Prayer Is ... (7)

In this seventh and last part of the mini-theme, "Prayer Is ...", we look at the thirteenth verse of Matthew Chapter 6. We note that there are essentially two meanings of the word, "temptation", as used in the bible--"test" and "trap". While the former is of God and therefore, positive, the latter is of Satan, and therefore, negative. And whilst we may not be immune to being tempted by the devil, we can nonetheless, overcome his solicitations to us to do evil. And, should we be unable to overcome the devil's wiles, we still have a fall back position, which is to go to God in repentance and seek His forgiveness.

Our Responsibility to Pray

Everyone who has been saved by grace ought always to pray. In this message, we give at least ten (10) reasons why we ought to spend quality time in the presence of God in prayer. One of which is that God wants to reveal His mind to us, about His Will and His work.

When Ye Fast_1_What is Fasting?

As we continue with our discussion on The Believer's Basic Responsibilities, we now arrive at the matter of fasting. In this first part of the discussion on fasting, we define and describe what fasting is, and what a true and acceptable fast before the Lord is.

When Ye Fast_2_The Power of a Fast

In looking at our responsibility as Christians to fast, we seek to let us know that power is released when we fast aright, and this power derives from God, as we fast appropriately, and acceptably before God.

When Ye Fast_3_When You Should Fast

What circumstance or situation should elicit us or motivate us to fast? We take a look at ten (10) possible situations/circumstances.

Of Treasures and Treasuries_1_Introduction

We are looking at the believer's basic responsibilities as it relates to what we are doing in terms of what we are doing here on the earth. As an introduction, we have taken the approach of a word study of Matthew 6:19-21, with a view to noting what the Lord is saying to us. That is, should you store up things? If "Yes", where should you store these treasures? and what should your treasures really be?

Of Treasures and Treasuries_2_What God Treasures

We take time to look at what God considers as a treasure, which can be markedly different from what man may consider as a treasure.

Conclusion

This is our conclusion on the subject of the basic responsibilities of a Christian. Our conclusion focuses on entry into heaven--the criteria, which is not just merely doing good deeds, but doing these deeds with the right motive and from the perspective that they are in line with God's Will.
