What is Coming Out of Your Mouth

When God said, "This book of the law shall not depart from out of your mouth ..." He is saying more than just keeping the word of God in your mouth. The Lord Jesus said, "... out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks". This means that the word not departing from your mouth is the word filling the heart. So, what is filling your heart? What is coming out of your mouth?

The Circumcision of the Heart

Since the heart is the center of our being, and out of it are the issues of life? And since the heart of man is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; it follows that unless the heart is made good, only deceitful and wicked things can issue from it. Further more, the 'foreskin' of the heart must be circumcised before we can even begin to talk about dealing with what is within the heart. This 'foreskin' is the 'flesh' or the sinful nature of man; and unless it is circumcised, nothing good can come of the mouth of a man, and he cannot therefore make his way prosperous and have good success. The circumcision itself is a divine work, and the believer must present himself before God for this circumcision to be done.

Circumcision of the Heart_2

After the foreskin of the heart has been cut away, and the heart proper is revealed, we now come face-to-face with the content of the heart--sin! It is this content of the heart that each time we try to deal with in our strength we fail. But when we submit to the Holy Spirit's work in us, we are delivered. This is what the bible calls "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set us free from the law of sin and death." On the basis of this work of the Holy Spirit, everything that pertains to the flesh is "put off" or "put away" from the heart, leaving it clean and ready for the next phase of work in sanctification.

Fill Your Heart with the Word of God

After the circumcision and evacuation of the heart of the flesh, it is now time to fill the heart with the word of God--the right word of God; the pure, unadulterated word of God; the sincere milk of the word of God. Since it is what is in our hearts that our mouth will speak forth, as we fill our hearts with the truth that is in the word of God, then we can only speak the truth, as is in the word of God.

Meditate on the Word of God (1)

Having stored the word of God in our hearts, we now must meditate on it. Meditation is the missing link between hearing and doing, and reading and understanding. It is what gives avenue for the Holy Spirit to be able to communicate His mind to us, among others. So, let us meditate on the word of God, and the better for it.

Meditate on the Word of God (2)

Having seen what meditation is, and achieves for the believer; we now see what we to meditate on, how we should meditate, and when to meditate. In putting meditation to scriptural practice, we come to reap the benefits thereof. And may the Lord help us.

The Goal of Meditating on the Word of God

We are enjoined by our heavenly Father to meditate on His word day and night, not just so that we can be deft in recital, neither so that we can be able to say that we know the word of God in and out; but so that we can be careful to obey all that has been written within the word of God. Unless we are obedient to the word of God, our study of the word of God is futile, and academic at best. May we be doers of the word of God; not only hearers!

Making Your Way Prosperous

True prosperity is success God's way; it is success by God's standard; it is success according to God's precept. True prosperity is achieving God's purpose for your life, and it can only truly happen when you are living as God wants you to--something that can only happen as you study the word of God, meditate on it day and night, and are careful to perform everything that God asks you to.

Good Success

"Good Success" is indicative of something that can only be from God or something that has divine approval. "Good Success" speaks of acting wisely according to God's standard--the Lord asked us to be wise as serpents, but harmless as doves. It is fulfilling God's will for your life according to God's plan!

The Implications and Applications of Joshua 1:8

Now we conclude this theme by looking at the implications and application of Joshua 1:8. It becomes evident that Joshua 1:8 is indeed very relevant to us today. In whatever vocation or endeavour of life, we must be careful to obey the word of God in our lives, otherwise, we shall not prosper in our way, neither shall we be able to act wisely. May God help us, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Does Your Action Show Your Faith in God?

Many of us profess to have faith in God; but do our actions display faith in God? If indeed we believe what the word of God says in the bible, why are we not living by the word of God?

There are Professors and There are Possessors

The kingdom of heaven is suffering bombardment from the devil and from all manner of people; but only those who truly know the value of the Kingdom will be able to seize the Kingdom of heaven. For it is one thing to profess the Kingdom of heaven, and it is another thing entirely to possess the Kingdom. Also there is a price to pay for possessing the Kingdom of heaven. The question really is, "How prepared are we to possess the Kingdom of heaven?" Put another way, we can ask, "How willing are we to pay the price that will give us the Kingdom of heaven?"

The Way Into the Kingdom of Heaven

The Kingdom of heaven must be taken forcefully (not casually). Many are forcefully taking something which Satan has craftily dubbed as "the kingdom of heaven", but which in reality is not the Kingdom of heaven! Before a person can truly take possession of the Kingdom of heaven, he must first have been possessed by the Kingdom itself; for without this possession by the Kingdom, indicating that such a person is subject to living by the principles of the Kingdom of heaven, he cannot be a possessor of the Kingdom of heaven, though he may be professing the Kingdom. And in any case, there is a right way toward the Kingdom, and the Way is the Lord Jesus--He is the Door, and if you don't enter through Him, you will be fished out and thrown into outer darkness.

Those Who Can Seize The Kingdom of Heaven

Those who can seize the Kingdom of heaven must be violently sold unto the Kingdom. They must be disciplined; they must be ready to go through the process of spiritual development which is essentially internal, which will manifest externally; they must be ready to suffer for the sake of the Kingdom of heaven, and be prepared to die if need be, for the sake of Christ; among many other things.

The Master's Invitation

"Come to Me all ye who labour and are heavy laden" is an invitation from the Master, the Lord Jesus; but few honour the invitation. For many go to a church meeting, or to a pastor, or for a business meeting, etc.; whereas, it is an invitation to come to a Person--the Lord Jesus Christ. We do well to heed this call, for it is in heeding this call that we shall truly begin to find rest for our souls.
